Statement
I am a Colombian-American, trans, neurodivergent, disabled and chronically ill interdisciplinary artist. My practice engages abstraction, production of value through the color gold, bed as non-site and touch as a primary mode of experience. I work with familial objects, craft processes, durational performance and architectural elements to feel through my relationship to dis/identification, slow movement, and queer-crip world building. My current research is rooted in creating haptic spaces for collective grief, interrogating the politics of “landscape” and engaging material perspectives on the debilitating impacts of war and permacrisis. I am currently interested in drawing on histories of rhizomatic, anti-imperialist, queer and disabled resistance grounded in a politic of rest. Informed by my job as an access worker with disabled, d/Deaf, deaf-blind, low vision and autistic communities, I am experimenting with different types of tactile art making through the use of bass shakers, transducers, raised textiles and collaborative gardening.
